- Brandywine School District
Important School Nutrition Information
It's hard to believe how quickly the new school year is approaching!
The 2022-2023 school year will be a little different than the past few years when it comes to school meals. That's because many of the federal programs that were in place from the USDA that allowed all schools to provide meals at no cost throughout COVID are now expired.
This means, families from some of our BSD schools will need to fill out a Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Application.
Within our district, some of our schools automatically qualify for meals at no cost – while other schools will require an application to be completed.
Families who have students attending the following schools WILL need to fill out a meal benefit application to qualify for free or reduced meal prices.
- Bush Early Childhood Center
- Forwood, Hanby, Lancashire, and Lombardy Elementary Schools;
- Springer and Talley Middle Schools;
- and all three of our high schools – Brandywine, Concord, and Mount Pleasant High Schools
*Please note: reduced meals will cost $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch. Full price costs are listed below.
Meanwhile, families who have students attending the following schools will NOT need to fill out a meal benefit application as these schools automatically receive meals at no cost.
- ECAP Early Child Assistance Program;
- Carrcroft, Claymont, Harlan, Maple Lane, and Mount Pleasant Elementary Schools;
- as well as P.S. duPont Middle School
Families can elect to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Application to learn more about grants, program funding, athletic waivers, and textbook assistance – but that is your choice. If you do not wish to fill out an application – that’s not a problem – the free meals are automatic.
The application process is both easy and convenient for families. Our School Nutrition office is also available should you have any questions about the Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Applications.
