Diversity & Equity Resources for Families

  • In the Brandywine School District, students of all cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives are provided an environment and resources to maximize their academic, social, and emotional development. We are committed to empowering students and staff to take an active role in eradicating social injustices and racism in Brandywine and beyond.

  • BSD is proud to be a Community Champion in the 21 Day Racial Equity Challenge, presented by the United Way of Delaware and YWCA. We invite the BSD community – students, families, and staff – to register for the challenge to build more effective social justice habits, particularly related to race and racism. Each day from August 17 to September 14, participants will receive an email with resources to reflect on.

The timing of the challenge fits perfectly with BSD’s planned Deliberate Discussions during upcoming staff professional development days, in which District staff members will work with school staffs to provide tools to deepen our understanding of the impacts of racism and engaging in conversations with students and colleagues. Last summer, all District administrators, building administrative teams, and student support staff took part in Restorative Practices training, a proactive approach to building and repairing relationships within communities. Our work in this area will continue and grow, and we invite the community to be part of the conversation by participating in the challenge as a member of BSD’s team. Those interested should sign up at https://deracialequitychallenge.org/ and choose Brandywine School District in the Team dropdown.
