  • Will prom be held? *added 6/29/20*

    Posted by:

Due to the continued restrictions regarding the use of indoor venues and the fact that the State of Delaware remains in Phase II, we will not be able to plan, organize, and host a prom at the Chase Center in late July.  This decision was made in conjunction with the School Board and District Administration and applies to all three BSD high schools. Rather than continuing to postpone, delay, reschedule, and then delay again, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the prom entirely.  We will support our Prom Committees, After Prom Committees and Alumni Groups to guide them in making decisions regarding funds raised for prom.

This applies to High School Credit Recovery, ELL Summer Learning, Harlan Enrichment Program, and Special Services Programs (12-month Entitlement and Extended School Year). No other summer programs will be offered this year. Students who are eligible to receive these services will be contacted directly by the respective departments within the Brandywine School District and/or their school.

  • When is Commencement? *updated 5/13/20*

    Posted by:

On April 15, we were notified by the University of Delaware that all May events, including graduation ceremonies, have been cancelled.  BSD's commencement was scheduled for May 31. At this time, we are exploring other options and will continue to communicate with the Class of 2020 and their families as we get more information. Our decision-making will be guided by what is in the best interest of the health, safety, and well-being of our students, families, staff, and community.

    May 13, 2020 Update:
Superintendent Hohler sent a letter to the Class of 2020 with more information about our path forward. As always, the final decision will rest on guidance from our health officials to ensure health and safety.

  • I have some questions about Driver's Ed... *updated 7/28/20*

    Posted by:

The Governor's most recent modification to the State of Emergency, issued late on June 24, allows us to start in-person driving for students who qualify. We appreciate your patience as we work through hiring qualified Driver's Ed teachers and scheduling students. Given that we have not been able to drive with students since March, there is a backlog of students who are eligible. Scheduling will be done at the building level and will be communicated by Driver’s Education teachers. Depending on staffing, driving could begin as early as the week of August 3, with staggered start times continuing in the following weeks. We know students and families have been anxiously awaiting this opportunity and will communicate with families in order of eligibility. Please note that Driver's Education teachers will be adhering to all of the guidelines that are in place for the current driving order.
