Meet the Principal
-
It is my pleasure and honor to introduce myself as the Principal of Brandywine High School. I am extremely proud to be a part of the Brandywine family and to have the opportunity to lead a school with such engaging students, an involved and committed staff, and a supportive parent and school community. I will work hard to build upon the excellence of our young scholars and to continue to grow this wonderful school as, “The Place to Be.”
I am driven by my desire to ensure that all students have access to all educational opportunities and are challenged to reach their full potential. My goal is to inspire and engage all learners in an enriching educational experience. I want our students to be critical thinkers and problem-solvers, to have respect for learning, and the will to achieve. Ultimately, we all want our students to be resilient, courageous members of society, who can face adversity, and learn the skills needed to enhance their well-being and purpose in life. My main goal is to build a strong school culture around these beliefs and engage the staff and the community to work together towards excellence.
My philosophy and beliefs are rooted in my own personal experiences as a student and veteran educator with over 25 years in public schools. I am not a native Delawarean like many of you. I hail from northern New Jersey, and attended the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Education. I completed my student teaching at Newark High School and was hired shortly thereafter as a math teacher. I spent 17 years at Newark High in the classroom teaching all levels of mathematics. I loved my classroom. I never wanted to do anything else but teach from a very young age. Nevertheless, I was ready for a new challenge. With a master’s degree in curriculum design and evaluation, I was driven to work on a larger scale to improve instruction and engagement. I was hired as an Assistant Principal at Newark High School in 2014 and held that position for 8 years until I became Principal at Brandywine High School in July 2022.
My son, Zachary, is a student at the University of Delaware as a computer science major. And my daughter, Elliana, is a student at Delcastle High School. My husband, Phil, is also an educator. Our strong family values rooted in the importance of education and the development of character clearly transfer into my professional life.
I value consistent and effective communication, so you will be receiving regular emails/phone calls from the admin team regarding the happenings at BHS. I also value your feedback, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email or phone.
