Welcome to the Library!

My name is Benjamin Klenk and this is my third year at Lombardy Elementary School as the Library Media Specialist. Throughout the year, students are exposed to a variety of literary genres in the form of book talks, genre-themed interactive activities, and read-alouds. A significant amount of time is devoted to teaching students about developing research skills during their time at Lombardy. Navigating through the district’s research database (UDLibSEARCH), using kid-friendly search engines, and using citation generators are all part of the research process that students learn to use. 1:1 technology in the library provides students with the opportunity to learn how to use Google Drive and Classroom – Google Docs, Slides, and Sites are used to develop assorted research projects done by the students. There is also a month-long session created by iSafe that is designed to educate and inform students about how to use various technology devices and online sites in a safe and ethical manner.
In addition, students have the opportunity to check out library books on a weekly basis during scheduled classes, as well as alternative times in the event of absences or holidays. In order to help each student to become independent searchers, they are taught to use our Lombardy Online Book Catalog.
Finally, each fall and spring, Lombardy hosts the Scholastic Book Fair in the library, where students have the opportunity to shop for the new and popular elementary titles.
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated with shelving, book repair, labeling, and Book Fair assistance in the Media Center. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you would like to make a contribution. Thank you for your support!
