What is STEM in BSD?

  • STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The real focus for our district is not on these words individually but on the common threads that tie the S, the T, the E, and the M together. These threads are the connective tissue between the common skills, knowledge, and language in these disciplines. They connect STEM to many other subjects and real-world experiences. Our STEM programs  provide  students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful in a globalized tech economy.

STEM is offered at both the elementary and secondary levels. Learning spaces are carefully designed to allow movement and collaborative work settings. Technology resources encourage students to think creatively STEM Students and work in teams with peers. Any education is only as strong as the connections made with real-world experiences; therefore, we intentionally create links between in school experiences and out of school technology.

The goal of our STEM program is to produce innovative problem solvers.   We encourage students to engage in problem-solving and innovation and provide the technological resources to assist them.
